Lão nha trong kỷ nguyên già hóa dân số: Chúng ta đã sẵn sàng cho tương lai?
Tuổi thọ ngày càng tăng đang đặt ra một yêu cầu mới cho nha khoa: không chỉ giữ được răng, mà còn duy trì khả năng ăn nhai, giao tiếp và chất lượng sống cho người cao tuổi.
Nhật Bản – quốc gia có tốc độ già hóa dân số nhanh trên thế giới – đã chuyển trọng tâm từ thành công của Chiến dịch 8020 sang quản lý chức năng răng miệng (Oral Function Management), mở ra một hướng tiếp cận mới trong lão nha.
Tại VIDEC 2026, TS.BS. Hirohiko Hirano – Chủ tịch Hội Nha khoa Lão khoa Nhật Bản và chuyên gia tiên phong về suy yếu răng miệng (Oral Frailty) và suy giảm chức năng răng miệng (Oral Hypofunction) – sẽ trình bày phiên báo cáo “Từ chiến dịch 8020 đến quản lý chức năng miệng: Những phát triển mới trong lão nha ở Nhật Bản.”
Phiên báo cáo sẽ cập nhật ba nội dung trọng tâm: nhận diện sớm Oral Frailty, mô hình chẩn đoán và quản lý Oral Hypofunction trong hệ thống y tế Nhật Bản, cùng các giải pháp duy trì chức năng ăn nhai, nuốt và giao tiếp cho người cao tuổi.
Không chỉ chia sẻ kinh nghiệm từ Nhật Bản, phiên báo cáo còn mang đến nhiều gợi mở cho thực hành nha khoa tại Việt Nam, giúp mở rộng góc nhìn từ điều trị bệnh lý sang quản lý chức năng nhằm nâng cao chất lượng sống trong bối cảnh dân số ngày càng già hóa.

Geriatric Dentistry in the Era of Population Aging: Are We Ready for the Future?
As life expectancy continues to rise, dentistry faces a new challenge – not only preserving natural teeth, but also maintaining the ability to eat, speak, and enjoy a better quality of life throughout older age.
Japan, one of the world’s fastest-aging societies, has successfully improved oral health through decades of preventive care. Building on the remarkable achievements of the 8020 Campaign, the country’s focus has now shifted toward Oral Function Management, recognizing that preserving teeth alone is no longer sufficient if oral functions such as mastication, swallowing, and speech continue to decline.
At VIDEC 2026, Dr. Hirohiko Hirano, President of the Japanese Society of Gerodontology and a pioneer in the fields of Oral Frailty and Oral Hypofunction, will present the lecture “From the 8020 Campaign to Oral Function Management: New Developments in Geriatric Dentistry in Japan.”
This keynote will highlight three major developments that are transforming geriatric dental care in Japan: the concept of Oral Frailty as an early indicator of functional decline, the implementation of Oral Hypofunction as a diagnostic category within Japan’s national dental insurance system, and oral function improvement services designed to preserve mastication, swallowing, and communication abilities among older adults.
Beyond sharing Japan’s experience, the lecture will provide valuable insights for dental professionals in Vietnam, where population aging is accelerating. Participants will gain a broader perspective on the evolving role of dentistry—from treating oral diseases to preserving oral function and supporting healthy aging through evidence-based clinical practice.
